Southern Sundays: Strawberry Rhubarb Pie

I think I may be breaking a rule by putting Strawberry Rhubarb Pie in a Southern category, (I’m told it’s a Northern pie) but all of the ingredients are grown regionally so today it’s Southern.  I was up in Asheville, NC the other week and before I left I stopped by the farmers market to see what was ripe.  My friend Ashley has a great recipe for this pie and was coming over for dinner with her husband the coming weekend.  We had planned to make one for me to photograph, so finding fresh local produce was icing on the cake.  Or should I say, the crust on the pie.  Bahahaha!  Sorry, that was my feeble attempt at kitchen humor.  We ended up tweaking her recipe as we went along to make it unique for the blog, but it turned out really good so it was safe to post and I think you’ll like it too.  I love the sweet, tart flavor of the fruit paired with the oatmeal crumble crust we concocted with the Strawberry Rhubarb Pie and the hint of cardamom gives it an interesting (in a good way) floral essence.  It was ooey, gooey deliciousness!  Thanks for sharing Ashley!!
