Oh dear…did I concoct a pan of trouble the other night.  My friend Kelly asked me to do a couple bake sale items for her son’s school and of course I jumped right on it.  I love to bake.  I’m not great at baking things like cakes, biscuits and breads, but it’s something I’m interested in doing better.  With that said, I don’t like to keep baked goods in my house.  Plain and simple, I’ll eat them.  I’m sure any other red blooded human being would do the same.  At least the ones who lack the same will power I lack when it comes to sweets!  If I made a pan of brownies and didn’t give at least three quarters of the pan away, I would pace by them like an animal stalking it’s prey until they were gone.  So, my solution you might ask??  Well…I’m still figuring out.  I’ll let you know when I do.  For now the answer is the bake sale.  Anyway, this was a great way to make a fall treat for the blog and then immediately remove it from the premises.   I did try one small bar.  Removing the first one from the pan is always tricky, right?  This happens to other people too doesn’t it?  That sad mangled bar needed to feel better about itself, so I took a bite.  I have found my two Thanksgiving desserts.  These and the apple cake I made from my dad’s birthday.  Yum.  However, since it’s almost Halloween, I figured I’d go ahead and post it incase any of you have a party to go to or want a little treat for when you come back in from trick or treating.
This Chocolate Caramel Pumpkin Bars recipe is adapted from Paula Deen’s pumpkin gooey butter cake recipe.  Yep…you guessed it. These chocolate caramel pumpkin bars have a ridiculous amount of butter in it.  Since I’m going to make these for Thanksgiving, I’m going to play around with making them lower in everything.  Butter, sugar, the works.  I was thinking about it today and I think it’s totally doable.  I’ll do a repost if I feel like they are a worthy version of the original.
These Chocolate Caramel Pumpkin Bars are Gluten Free friends! When I was buying the cake mix for the base of this dessert I saw where Betty Crocker had GF cake mixes.  Yay!!!  You can partake too!
